Dear Distributors,

On 30th October 2023 the technical bulletin was issued regarding our Grey Caulking and Welding Wire. Please read the Technical Bulletin below and download it HERE.

The bulletin outlined batch numbers affected, which should not be used, and any stock material still held by distributors, will be replaced by Flexiteek and any old material should be destroyed.

The cutoff date for any MATERIAL REPLACEMENTS will be 29th February 2024.

Any claims for replacement materials under the technical bulletin must be received before this date. Any claims relating to the technical bulletin received after this date will not be considered.

Please follow the below process:

1.      Check your stocks for any affected materials.

2.      Contact all of your agents instructing them to check their stock for any affected materials (they are your customer and therefore your responsibility).

3.      Take pictures of all affected materials.

4.      Take pictures of all affected batch numbers – if you cannot supply the batch number, we cannot replace the material.

5.      If possible, please let us know the coil numbers.

6.      Once you have collated all necessary information, for yourselves and all of your agents, email it to james@wilks.co.uk

Grey Caulking and Welding Wire Technical Bulletin

This Technical Bulletin sets out to make everyone aware of an update to the grey colour within the caulking lines of profiles and welding wire, to ensure older material is removed from stocks and to inform you about our new compounded material.

OLD STOCK MANAGEMENT:
Further to previous communication updates – any unused grey material with batch numbers between 3371 and 5313 should be removed from your stock and any profiles/wire will be replaced.
Any part coils or unidentifiable welding wire should be removed from circulation, and where necessary they will be replaced. We are aware of some older out of tolerance wire and old Wilks produced wire that was originally made for bottom weld use only being used and would like to take this opportunity to purge through old stocks.
Any grey products with batches of material between 5328 and 5812 should be used together where possible.

NEW COLOUR SPECIFICATION:
To enhance plank and wire grey colour consistency we’ve established a specification with a tolerance of Delta E* 1 or less to ensure colours are as close in shade as our raw material supplier can produce.
All newly manufactured product containing grey will be identified with ‘V037’ mark on the product label. This represents material that has been manufactured with the enhanced control on colour variation and only V037 planks and wire should be used together going forward.
It is important to note the phenomenon specifically with top welding profiles. To achieve the same colour between welded and extruded caulk lines, both must be sanded and treated the same. The colour can appear different if the surface roughness is different between extruded and welded caulk lines.

A CONSISTENT APPROACH:
All distributors have a duty and responsibility to advise all their fabricating customers and agents of the items within this update and to act on their behalf to replace any material as appropriate.
